Optimizing district heating and cooling through technology, expertise and collaboration

Why Energy Storage?

We need to turn wasted energy into future energy.
Thermox helps optimize solutions that solves part of the future energy market’s needs regarding climate change and energy storage.

Thermal Energy Storage

Thermal Energy Storage (TES) is a large-scale underground system designed to store thermal energy for long periods of time. .

A year round solution

The concept enables excess heat generated during periods of low demand to be stored and later supplied when energy demand increases, such as during winter months

Why is large-scale energy storage needed?

As renewable energy production increases, energy systems face growing challenges related to balancing supply and demand.

How does it work?

The system stores thermal energy in a combination of water and surrounding rock formations. Heat is transferred into the storage facility during charging periods and later extracted through a network of tunnels and boreholes when needed.

Is the method proven?

The design is based on established engineering principles and extensive thermal modelling. The heat transfer mechanisms in rock and water have been validated through comparable large-scale projects and independent technical reviews.

Architectural Solutions

A typical TES facility can store between 50 and 500 GWh of thermal energy, depending on site-specific requirements and geological conditions.
